In this article, you will learn the difference between Service Time and Duration Time for appointments in the system. Appointments in the system keep track of two types of time: Service Time and Duration Time. Duration Time is based on the appointment's actual Start and End Times, and the Service Time represents the billable time for the service on the appointment. There are also options like Service Time Syncing on appointments and Funding Source Rounding Rules that should be taken into consideration.

Jumpt To Section:

Duration Time on Appointments

The Duration Time is based on the appointment's actual Start Time and End Time.
This means, if an appointment is scheduled from 1 PM - 2:30 PM, the Duration time is 1.5 hours.

Service Time on Appointments

Service Time represents the Billable time in minutes. This is the amount of time that can be billed on a claim/invoice.

Funding Source Settings, such as Unit Sizes and Unit Rounding Rules, can cause this amount to vary from the duration, rounding the service time to the nearest billable unit size.

See Funding Source: Services Tab Overview for more information.

Service Time Synchronization on Appointments

The button next to the Service Time window is used to synchronize the Service Time with the appointment's Duration, making the service time match the duration automatically - this is active by default when appointments are first created.

Clicking it again will disable the Sync, and the green icon will turn red, indicating that the Service Time is not syncing with the appointment duration. If unit rounding is applied automatically due to Funding Source Rules, the sync will be disabled.
