NOTE: AI Session Assistant will only be available to clinics enrolled in the associated beta program until general availability in early 2026.

Fusion’s AI Session Assistant converts recorded sessions and dictated notes into structured clinical documentation within the system. This article provides an overview of the workflow used to generate notes using this tool.

PERMISSIONS REQUIRED: An administrator must enable the AI Session Assistant tool for individual users. See the Admin: Enable AI Session Assistant for more information.

  1. Navigate to Schedule.
  2. Add an appointment for your patient.
  3. This appointment will be used when generating the documentation.

Create an Encounter in AI Session Assistant

  2. Enter an Encounter Name (optional).
  3. Choose a note type:
    • Initial Evaluation (auto‑creates Daily Note)
    • Daily Note
    • Progress Note
    • Discharge Note

Add Session Context

  1. Context for the encounter’s note(s) can be captured using one or more of the following method(s):
    • Recording
      • Ambient listening session or dictation.
    • Scratch comments
    • Audio file upload
  2. Once the context type(s) have been selected, perform one of the following actions:
    • Click the microphone button to start recording an ambient listening or dictation session.
    • Type notes into the comments section.
    • Upload an audio file from a previously recorded session.

Review and Edit the Generated Documentation

  1. Once generated, open the document in the extension.
  2. Edit any field (subjective, objective, tests & measures, goals, etc.).
  3. Delete any sections you do not want to paste into Fusion.
  4. Adjust the instructions and/or add additional context, and select Regenerate if needed.

Insert the Note Into Fusion

  1. Navigate to Fusion.
  2. Open the generated note (e.g. initial evaluation or daily note) that you wish to copy from the AI Session Assistant.
  3. Click Save & Paste to EMR to insert the generated note into the associated note in Fusion.
  4. Complete the legally required consent modal:
      • Patient name
      • Date of birth
      • Guardian (if applicable)
      • Consent checkbox

For only Initial Evaluations:

  1. After the Initial Evaluation is populated, Fusion will prompt you to open the associated Daily Note.
    • Navigate to the Daily Note and click Continue.

For all other note types:

  1. Follow the prompt to proceed to the Note.

Complete the Note

  1. Review, edit, populate any goal progress and charges, save, and sign as needed.

Additional Notes

  • Goal progress and charges must still be entered manually.
  • You may work in other Fusion tabs during generation, however when pasting from the AI Session Assistant extension, keep the note open and unchanged.
