NOTE: This article outlines the planned workflow for Ensai Session Assistant. For the current workflow see Ensai Session Assistant: Custom Note Workshop.

SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED: This feature is part of the Ensai Session Assistant add-on.

The AI Chat (formerly known as Custom Note Workshop) in Ensai Session Assistant allows you to personalize note types based on your documentation preferences and share them with colleagues within your organization.

Personalize an Existing Note Type

Personalizing a note type allows you to modify how a note is generated.

NOTE: Pre-loaded primary note types cannot be deleted, but they can be duplicated and customized.

  1. In Ensai Session Assistant, click AI Chat.
  2. Select the note type you wish to personalize.
  3. Follow the prompt in the AI Chat messaging window, or click Personalize at the bottom of the page.
  4. Enter your preferences in AI Chat to customize your notes.
  5. Continue the conversation in AI Chat to make additional changes as needed. Click Preview to review your changes at any time.

Review & Modify the Template Outline

The Template Outline defines the structure of the note and how Ensai Session Assistant generates content.

  • Note Type Name
    • Displays the name of the note type.
    • Primary note type names are not editable.
  • Input Type
    • Determines how data is used to generate the note:
      • Encounter: Uses encounter context such as recordings and comments.
      • SOAP Note: Uses content from an existing SOAP note to generate supplemental notes (for example, HEP handouts or justification letters).
  • Note Sections
    • The sections can be configured to:
      • Limit the number of sentences.
      • Change formatting (paragraph vs. bullet points).
      • Remove sections entirely.
      • Adjust level of detail consistently across notes.
    • To edit the note sections:
      1. Expand the Template Outline by clicking on the ^ icon.
      2. Review the list of note sections.
      3. Use the three dot menu to:
        • Edit section descriptions
        • Delete sections
      4.  Drag the six dot handle to reorder sections.

Refine your Template with the AI Chat Editor

NOTE: If the Template Outline is expanded, you may need to collapse it to view the AI Chat Editor.

The AI Chat Editor appears below the Template Outline. Using natural, conversational language instead of manual edits, the AI Chat Editor personalizes how your notes are generated by Ensai Session Assistant.

The chat is not limited to the examples below. If you are unsure how to make a change manually, describe what you want to accomplish and the AI Chat can help you make the change. For additional tips, see “Tips for Personalizing a Note/Prompting Session Assistant” section below.

  1. Scroll to the AI Chat Editor and click within the message box.
  2. Enter instructions such as:
    • “Show me the current note structure.”
    • “Limit the Subjective section to four sentences.”
    • “Remove the Assessment section.”
    • “Use bullet points in the Objective section.”
  3. Review the AI confirmation of changes.
  4. Continue refining until the template matches your expectations.
    • You can also request:
      • Modifying existing section content
      • Increasing or reducing detail in specific sections
      • Adding standard language that appears in every note
  5. The AI applies changes directly to the template and confirms updates as they are made.

NOTE: If you need to undo changes, click Restore a previous version in the upper-right corner of the document template. If the original template is no longer available, contact Fusion Support for assistance.

Generate a Sample Note Preview

You can use the Generate Sample Note Preview button to validate formatting and content before using the note in live documentation.

NOTE: No real encounter data is created during this process.

  1. Select Generate Sample Note Preview.
  2. Choose a Mock Context or enter your own in the Enter a Custom Context field.
  3. Click Generate Preview.
  4. The AI Chat Editor will generate a note preview for this note type with its current outline.

Personalized note types can be shared with other users in the same organization.

To share a note type:

  2. Click the Share an Existing Note Type button or use the AI Chat messaging window to type your request. For example, “I want to share my note type.”
  3. Select the checkbox(s) next to the note type(s) you’d like to share.
  4. Choose one or more users from the dropdown user list.
  5. Click the Share Selected Notes button.
  6. The receiving user(s) will receive a request to accept or decline the addition of the shared note type to their user profile.

Tips for Personalizing a Note/Prompting Session Assistant

When using the AI Chat Editor to customize a note type, these best practices can help you achieve more accurate and consistent results.

  • Make a copy of the note type when you want distinct variants. Always keep the original version but add a customized copy for a specific diagnosis. Include the note type in the title.
    • Example:
      • Daily Note - Vestibular Rehab Evaluation
  • State the objective clearly. What information must be included? What is the specific goal of the change?
    • Examples:
      • “Limit the Subjective section to 3 sentences, maximum.”
      • “Use bullet points for the Assessment section.”
  • Give one change at a time. Layering different changes into a single request can muddle the AI's "understanding" and lead to confused results.
    • Example:
      • Instead of requesting “Limit the Subjective section to 3 sentences and make the Assessment into bullet points,” separate those requests into two prompts.
  • Use Ask-Based Prompting. If you are unsure how to start, ask the AI to help you write the prompt.
    • Example:
      • “How do I write a prompt to decrease the length of the note?”
