A Rate Behavior is used to measure how often a Behavior occurs within a set observation time period. To take any Behavior data in the app, you must first create the Behavior in the Portal with the desired Recording Type (Frequency, Rate, Duration, Momentary Time Sample, Partial Interval). To learn how to create a Behavior in the Portal see Behaviors: Create, Edit, or Archive.
This article displays the steps to record a Rate Behavior in the app.

In Catalyst, Rates can be measured by:

  • Count/Minute
  • Count/5 Minute
  • Count/10 Minute
  • Count/15 Minute
  • Count/Hour
  • Total Count
  • Total Duration
  • Average Duration
  • Time of Day

  5. Tap the Start icon or click into Minutes/Seconds to enter the time manually.
Tap Plus (or Minus) buttons for desired Behavior to increase or decrease the count.

NOTE: Once you start a Rate Timer, that Behavior will then become viewable for Data Collection on the bottom of the Targets screen with the rest of the Frequency Tally buttons. These Rate Tally buttons also disappear from the Targets screen when the Rate Timer is stopped. Since this measurement type is linked to a timer you can only take data on the behavior if the timer is running.
