The warning messages are just that: they WARN the user they are about to admit a Medicare patient that falls into either the Medicare 24 hour rule or the 72 hour rule. These messages will pop up during the admitting process.

If a Medicare Out Patient is discharged, and the patient is being re-admitted as an In Patient, with-in one day of the last charge on the Out Patient account, the user will see the message in the picture below. This message will pop up after the Treatment Program is entered. This message is a warning only. The admitting staff may need to inform the Business Office of this readmit in case any modifications need to be done to the Out Patient bill. The user will simply click OK to continue on.

If a Medicare In Patient is readmitted within 3 days of being discharged, the admit staff will see a message as seen in the picture below.

Again, this is just a warning. Normally what would happen at this point:

  • the user would click OK
  • cancel this admission
  • go into the account shown in the message (account that was discharged)
  • remove the discharge date
  • go into the AutoGen and add the LOA (Leave of Absence) service numbers
  • NOT create a second admit.

However, these messages are just warnings and it would be up to the hospital to create a policy to follow.

These warnings will ONLY come up on Medicare patients. The system is programmed to know if a payor is Medicare by a setting in the billing profile APPLY screen.

If you have any questions about these warning messages, please contact system support staff.
