PERMISSIONS: You need the Billing permission to print claims.
The system creates claims to the exact specifications of the CMS 1500 form, so you can easily print any claims that cannot be submitted electronically. If the printed document doesn't line up correctly with your paper form, you will need to adjust your printer's settings. Every printer is different, so general tips for adjusting printer alignment are listed below.

Download to Adobe Reader
Often the default settings for printing from your browser are different than the default settings for printing from Adobe Reader. We have found that many people are able to successfully print from Adobe even if they are not able to print directly from the browser.
- Print a Claim
- In the lower right, click the Download to PDF button.
- Open the file in Adobe Reader.
- Print the file with the Actual Size option selected.
TIP! Where's the option? Older versions of Adobe Reader have a Fit to Page option instead. This should be unchecked.
Adjust Print Options
If downloading the file to PDF and printing from Adobe Reader doesn't resolve your alignment issues, you will need to adjust the print options.
When a document is printed, a print dialog box usually appears. This is your printer's software driver, and it is where you can adjust print options. Because every printer is different, you may find these options in a different location than listed.
Scaling
Scaling is shrinking or enlarging a document's size to better fit the printed pages. You will want to ensure that one of the following options is set:
- Fit to Page is unchecked
- Actual Size is selected
- Set the scaling to 100%
Gutter Margin
Gutter Margin is additional space added to the margin on a document to move the entire printable area up and down or left and right. This option is usually buried within the printer's settings and may not be available for all printers. The option may also be displayed as Padding or Image Shift.
You will need to incrementally adjust the settings and print several test claims until the alignment is correct. Once you are satisfied with the settings, save them for later use.
TIP! Reduce Cost: While testing you can print on a regular sheet of white paper, hold it over the claim form, and hold it up to the light to check alignment rather than wasting expensive CMS 1500 forms.
